Children  in Killusty School made a well being tree by attaching leaves with positive thoughts and inspirational quotes.

Green Fingers in the Making

As part of our Health and Well-being initiative, Killusty School is appreciating the value of connecting with nature as a way of improving our overall health and well-being. The children are enjoying many gardening activities such as vegetable planting, creating colourful window boxes and even weeding!.

​Killusty National School is delighted to have achieved Health Promoting Schools status in June 2019 in recognition of the work that has been carried out in the school  over the previous two years.

"A Health Promoting School can be characterised as a school constantly strengthening its capacity as a healthy setting for living, learning and working".

The aims of a Health Promoting School include: 

  • Promoting the health and well-being of pupils

  • Enhancing the learning outcomes of pupils

  • Upholding social justice and equity

  • Providing a safe and supportive environment

  • Involving pupil participation and empowerment

  • Linking health and education issues and systems

  • Addressing the health and well-being issues of school staff

  • Collaborating with parents/guardians and the wider community

  • Integrating health into the schools’ ongoing activities, curriculum and assessment standards

  • Setting realistic goals built on accurate data and sound evidence

  • Seeking continuous improvement through ongoing monitoring and evaluation

Harvesting our Vegetables in September 

We weren't back in school long when the boys in the Junior Room got busy harvesting the vegetables they planted in Spring.
